Arsenal youngster Kelechi Nwakali is set to join up with the first-team for pre-season.
The 19-year-old spent last season out on loan at Dutch side VVV Maastricht after signing for Arsenal from Diamond Academy last summer.
He made 29 appearances in Eerste Divisie last season – scoring two goals – however is set to make the step up to the Arsenal senior squad for pre-season.
Nwakali led his native Nigeria in winning the 2015 Under-17 World Cup, before he was signed by Arsenal. He was the captain of his team and won the Golden Boot award after finishing as top goalscorer. He is now a frequent member of the Nigeria Under-20 squad and isn’t far away from a senior call up.
According to SCORENigeria, via Daily Cannon, the midfielder will join Arsenal for their pre-season tour of Australia, and Nwakali will be hoping to impress Arsene Wenger and convince the Frenchman to include him in Arsenal’s first-team squad for next season.
Many people took to Twitter after a photo was released showing Nwakali in Nigeria during his off-season trip. He returned home to Nigeria to help his mum, and the picture shows him frying Garri, much to the delight of Twitter users.
